Mercury Retrograde: The Misunderstood Trickster
Mercury gets a bad rap, doesn’t he? For most of my life, anytime I heard Mercury’s name, it was because he was getting BLAMED for something.
Tech glitches, miscommunications, unexpected delays—cue the collective groan: Ugh, is Mercury retrograde or something?
And let’s be real… SO MANY times, the answer is yes. 😂
But here’s the thing: I don’t believe any planet is out to get me.
As an Animist, I see planets, plants, animals—all Beings—as forces we can build relationships with. Mercury, in particular, isn’t a villain. He’s a trickster, a messenger, and—if you listen closely—a creative muse.
And yeah, he’s a bit of a spin master. But what creative genius isn’t?
What is Mercury Retrograde?
Mercury isn’t the only planet that stations retrograde, but he does it more often and for shorter periods than any other planet.
For example:
🌟 Venus retrogrades every 18 months.
🌟 Saturn retrogrades yearly.
🌟 Mercury? Three to four times per year.
Because Mercury Retrograde happens so frequently, we notice it more. And when we learn how to work with this cycle rather than resist it, it becomes an invaluable tool for creative growth.
